Journey Duration: Between 37 to 47 minutes

When considering travel by means of public transport, then the first option that may pop to mind would be travel by bus from Faro to Vilamoura.

This Faro Vilamoura bus route is currently operated by coach company Eva Transportes that operates an intercity schedule lasting between 37 to 47 minutes.

Ticket prices work on a one-way basis with a one-way adult fare going for €4.30, and as such a return will cost €8.60.

Arriving into Vilamoura it’s worth noting that there are in fact more than one Vilamoura stop. If you’re headed to one of the main beachfront hotels then you’ll find the Praia de Marina stop to be the best option. This stops in front of the Vilamoura Casino and many of the most popular and prominent beachfront hotels. On the coach company’s website this stop is abbreviated to “Vilamoura(P.Marina)”.

The Faro to Vilamoura bus service offers daily departures starting from around 06:30 am in the mornings, operating throughout the day until the last bus departs Faro at 19:15 pm.

Important to note: It is very important to note that certain departures only run on weekdays. On weekends as well as holidays, the frequency is more than half of that during the week. So, do be sure to consult the up to date timetable which is available on the Eva Transportes website.

Upon the return, the Vilamoura to Faro bus service operates a similar frequency, but just at slightly different times.

On this route the first bus departs from 08:08 am, and the last departure at 20:08 pm at night.

Again, make sure to consult the Vilamoura to Faro bus timetable, since weekend services are also limited.

Note: Naturally speaking, schedules & tariffs may change over time and depending on seasonality. The information contained in this post is accurate as at the time of publication. Train from Faro to Vilamoura

Journey Duration: 10 – 16 minutes, depending on the service booked

The next public transport option available, would be to travel from Faro to Vilamoura by train. Although this Faro Vilamoura train option may seem the quickest, and for that reason more appealing, I have to point out that Faro doesn’t have its own train station.

The closest train station to Vilamoura is either the Boliqueime station or the Loule station. Both of which are more or less 20 minutes’ drive by car to the Vilamoura Marina. From Faro, Loule is the first of these two stations. As such it would make sense to catch the train from Faro to Loule.

Currently this journey time is around 10 – 16 minutes, depending on which train service is booked.

Comboios de Portugal (CP), Portugal’s national rail operator, offers several different types. The Alfa Pendular (AP) and the Intercidades (IC) trains are slightly faster and more expensive than the slower Regional (R) trains.

The AP and IC trains take 10 minutes to complete the journey and usually cost between €9.55 – €11.70 per standard ticket. On the other hand, the Regional train takes around 16 minutes and costs only €1.95 for a one-way ticket.

Tip: You can book up to 2 months in advance on the CP website which would allow you to snag discounted fares on the AP and IC trains. These discounts are up to 40% off the regular price, meaning you would then expect to pay around €5.00 for a one-way ticket on these trains.

Faro to Vilamoura Train

On this Faro to Loule train service you will find 10 daily departures that run between the hours of 07:00 am in the morning up to 19:22 pm at night.

Vilamoura to Faro Train

When returning back to Faro, the trains from Loule also operate around 10 departures with the first train leaving at 07:43 am and the last departure at 21:51 pm.

To pre-book these tickets in advance is a breeze, especially since the CP website does offer an English language option. You can book two months in advance through the site and you’ll receive your train tickets on email in an electronic ticket format which you can simply print off and take with you when you travel.

Driving from Faro to Vilamoura by Car

Journey Duration: Approximately 40 – 50 minutes

If travelling by bus or train doesn’t appeal to you and you’d rather have more freedom and flexibility to travel around, exploring the Algarve at your own leisure, then consider renting a car for the duration of your stay.

The distance from Faro to Vilamoura is around 30 kilometres (18.6 miles). The journey by car should take you between 30 – 40 minutes to complete.

Important: I do have to point out at this time that depending on which route you decide to travel along, you may come across toll roads. Many of the national motorways in Portugal are tolled and on this stretch between Faro and Vilamoura you may travel along the A22 highway, which is tolled. Do make sure to factor this into your budget.

Tip: It may be useful for you to ask the car rental company to include their electronic toll tag service onto your rental. This service does come at an extra cost, but we normally include it simply because of the convenience it offers. Essentially, the agency will link your card to the electronic tag and as you make use of and travel through each toll gate your card will automatically be charged. So, no worrying about how or where to pay these toll fees.

Faro to Vilamoura transfers (including taxis)

Apprehensive to drive in Portugal? But, still prefer to be driven from Faro to Vilamoura? Then consider booking transfers from Faro to Vilamoura.

I always found Suntransfers to be quite useful. They’re an aggregator site that will link you up to local in country providers. Currently a door-to-door private transfer for up to 3 to 4 passengers costs around €25.

Are you flying into Faro Airport and plan on travelling straight through to Vilamoura from there? Below I’ll outline the various options on how to travel directly from Faro Airport to Vilamoura.

Again, depending on the route taken, the distance from Faro Airport to Vilamoura, to the Marina, is approximately 30 kilometres (18.6 miles) and similarly should take between 30 to 40 minutes to travel.

Faro Airport Transfers to Vilamoura

Similarly, to what has already been discussed above, booking a transfer from Faro Airport to Vilamoura through Suntransfers is probably the easiest and quickest way to get between these two cities.

This private meet and greet transfer service that will collect you directly from the Airport should cost in and around €25 for us to 3 or 4 passengers.

The service can be booked directly on the Suntransfers website.

Taxi from Faro Airport to Vilamoura

You may also opt to take a taxi from Faro Airport to Vilamoura, although to be honest, I would much rather suggest you book a private transfer.

The rates of a taxi will vary by day of the week and time and may or may not include tolls etc. I find having an upfront price and knowing what to expect is far more assuring than just hoping for the best. Taxis are known to be more expensive than transfers or even cab hailing services such as Uber, Bolt or Kapten, that operate in Portugal.

Faro Airport to Vilamoura bus

Unfortunately, there is no direct EVA Transportes bus from Faro Airport to Vilamoura. In order to catch a bus from Faro, you would first need to make your way from the Airport to the Faro bus terminal in order to connect onwards.

From Faro Airport there is a Go Shuttle service operated by the same company that connects the airport with other places in the Algarve, but sadly, Vilamoura is not one of the stops on this route.

Where to stay

Still need to book your accommodation? There are some great beachfront options available in Vilamoura (or Quarteira, just a short walk away). These include the 3* Dom Jose Beach Hotel, the 4* Vila Gale Ampalius, the 4* Vilamoura Garden Hotel (not beachfront though) as well as the 5* Tivoli Marina Vilamoura or the 5* Anantara Vilamoura Algarve Resort.

All of these are great options and highly rated accordingly to past reviews on Booking.com.
