Journey Duration: Between 40 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes

First up on my list of the best ways to get between Alicante and Benidorm, would be take consider taking the bus which is operated by the coach company ALSA.

As a well-known and established operator in Spain, ALSA has a large route network connecting many different destinations across Spain and offers a comfortable and convenient service between Benidorm to Alicante.

With over 30 daily departures on weekdays and over 20 on weekends, this is by far one of the most popular ways to get between these two Spanish seaside cities (and return).

Not only is travelling from Alicante to Benidorm by bus the quickest route by public transport, it is also inexpensive too, with a one-way journey currently costing only €4.80.

Bus – Alicante Benidorm

The Alicante Benidorm bus service, as already mentioned, has well over 20 departures daily and starts from around 04:30 am in the morning all the way up to 00:15 am late at night on both weekdays as well as weekends.

The actual journey time ranges anywhere between 45 minutes on the fastest service and around 1 hour 35 minutes on the slower bus. This really depends on the option booked and the number of stops it makes along the way.

Visiting the ALSA website, you can quite easily consult schedules, availability and rates as well as booking online too. (Note, there is also an option to view the site in English for ease of use).

Benidorm Alicante Bus

Upon the return, the Benidorm Alicante Bus service has just as many departures and start operating from as early as 04:45 am. Departures carry on throughout the day and well in to the night and up until the last bus at 02:30 am the following morning.

A lesser known alternative to travel between these two cities would be to take the Alicante to Benidorm train (or rather tram service to be more specific).

Departing from the Alicante-Luceros tram station, the Alicante Benidorm Tram service takes 1 hour 12 mins to reach the Benidorm stop. Operated by the Tram Metropolitano de Alicante , the L1 line connects these two destinations and also offers frequent departures daily.

Considering that Alicante is in Zone A and Benidorm in Zone D on the tram zone map, thus covering 4 zones, the current single journey ticket costs €4.85.

Journey Duration: Approximately 35 – 40 minutes

Hiring a car and driving this route on your own is another great alternative that will also afford you greater freedom to explore not only Alicante and Benidorm, but also the surrounding region too.

With the distance from Alicante to Benidorm being around 45 kilometres, the journey should take around 30 – 45 minutes, depending on traffic and also where exactly you need to travel to and from in both locations.

Spanish Motorways

I have to point out, when driving from Alicante to Benidorm you may pass along the AP-7 motorway, which happens to be tolled road.

In Spain, highways are either tolled or free. Normally tolled roads have the letter P in it. Example the AP-7. Whereas free roads tend to simply be an A and a number – such as the A-31 for instance.

This map is an extremely helpful display of the Spanish motorway network and also gives an overview of which roads you can expect to pay tolls on and which are free to use.
