How to travel from Alicante to Benidorm – Transport Guide
When visiting Benidorm, situated in Spain’s Costa Blanca region, you would likely be flying into Alicante’s airport, being the closest one to Benidorm.
If this is the case then you may well be wondering how exactly to travel from Alicante to Benidorm (or vice versa).
In this guide I will outline all the various travel options and detail exactly how you can get between these two Spanish cities by either bus, tram, car, taxi or private transfers.

Alicante to Benidorm Bus
Journey Duration: Between 40 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes
First up on my list of the best ways to get between Alicante and Benidorm, would be take consider taking the bus which is operated by the coach company ALSA.
As a well-known and established operator in Spain, ALSA has a large route network connecting many different destinations across Spain and offers a comfortable and convenient service between Benidorm to Alicante.
With over 30 daily departures on weekdays and over 20 on weekends, this is by far one of the most popular ways to get between these two Spanish seaside cities (and return).
Not only is travelling from Alicante to Benidorm by bus the quickest route by public transport, it is also inexpensive too, with a one-way journey currently costing only €4.80.
Bus – Alicante Benidorm
The Alicante Benidorm bus service, as already mentioned, has well over 20 departures daily and starts from around 04:30 am in the morning all the way up to 00:15 am late at night on both weekdays as well as weekends.
The actual journey time ranges anywhere between 45 minutes on the fastest service and around 1 hour 35 minutes on the slower bus. This really depends on the option booked and the number of stops it makes along the way.
Visiting the ALSA website, you can quite easily consult schedules, availability and rates as well as booking online too. (Note, there is also an option to view the site in English for ease of use).
Benidorm Alicante Bus
Upon the return, the Benidorm Alicante Bus service has just as many departures and start operating from as early as 04:45 am. Departures carry on throughout the day and well in to the night and up until the last bus at 02:30 am the following morning.
Alicante Bus Terminal
The Bus from Alicante to Benidorm departs from the Alicante Estación Bus in Alicante which is situated in Muelle de Poniente. The station is located quite centrally, close to the Puerto de Alicante (the Port of Alicante).
Benidorm Bus Station
To and from Benidorm, buses arrive and depart from the ‘new’ bus terminal which is situated in Carrer Francisco Llorca Antón. This is located about a kilometre to the town centre and roughly 2.3 kilometres from Platja de Llevant beach.
Alicante to Benidorm by Train (Tram service)
Journey Duration: Between 1 hour 12 minutes
A lesser known alternative to travel between these two cities would be to take the Alicante to Benidorm train (or rather tram service to be more specific).
Departing from the Alicante-Luceros tram station, the Alicante Benidorm Tram service takes 1 hour 12 mins to reach the Benidorm stop. Operated by the Tram Metropolitano de Alicante , the L1 line connects these two destinations and also offers frequent departures daily.
Considering that Alicante is in Zone A and Benidorm in Zone D on the tram zone map, thus covering 4 zones, the current single journey ticket costs €4.85.
Alicante to Benidorm by Car
Journey Duration: Approximately 35 – 40 minutes
Hiring a car and driving this route on your own is another great alternative that will also afford you greater freedom to explore not only Alicante and Benidorm, but also the surrounding region too. With the distance from Alicante to Benidorm being around 45 kilometres, the journey should take around 30 – 45 minutes, depending on traffic and also where exactly you need to travel to and from in both locations.
I have to point out, when driving from Alicante to Benidorm you may pass along the AP-7 motorway, which happens to be tolled road. In Spain, highways are either tolled or free. Normally tolled roads have the letter P in it. Example the AP-7. Whereas free roads tend to simply be an A and a number – such as the A-31 for instance.

Alicante Airport to Benidorm
If you’re visiting the Costa Blanca you would probably be flying into Alicante, being the closest regional airport. If doing so and you plan to travel directly onward from Alicante airport to Benidorm, then read below on the options available to you.
Alicante Airport to Benidorm by bus:
From the Alicante-Elche Airport you can take the ALSA bus service.
This bus from Alicante airport to Benidorm takes around 45 minutes costing €9.80 for a one-way ticket. Currently they offer frequent daily departures starting from 08:00 am in the morning, with departures almost every hour on the hour up until 23:00 pm at night.
When at Alicante Airport, the bus stop is located just outside the departure’s hall.
Train from Alicante Airport to Benidorm (Tram):
Unfortunately, the tram service is not connected to the airport and as such you would need to travel into the city to connect onward by tram.
To get from the airport to Alicante city centre you may opt to take the airport bus service (bus line C6) or you may even travel by taxi.

Taxi from Alicante Airport to Benidorm:
Taking a taxi from Alicante to Benidorm is another alternative option that you may be considering. Consulting the airport website, they provide an estimated rate of between €67 to €74 as a guideline for what you can expect to pay on the intercity Alicante to Benidorm taxi route.
Private Transfers from Alicante Airport to Benidorm:
Lastly, you may want the piece of mind, knowing that your driver will be ready and waiting for you in the arrivals hall and then escort you on a private transfer from Alicante airport to Benidorm.
Currently a private Alicante to Benidorm transfer from the airport will cost around €63 one-way for 2 adults. This of course depends on your dates, where you need to go and for how many travellers it would be.
